had some thoughts on twitter about virtual reality headsets (in light of the Valve headset that just got announced) and thought i’d post them here.
virtual reality headset thingies sound cool or w/e, but i’m pretty sure the last thing we need is humanity becoming more disillusioned with reality. it’s a terrible example, but it reminds me of that scene in Inception with all those dudes hooked up in dirty basements, living in their dream worlds. i want a vr headset that revives my interest in reality or makes it worth living for. i don’t want to feel even more displaced. not everybody’s mind is as sound as the other’s; what could be a harmless game for one could become another person’s misguided “purpose”.
i worry that this is one of those science things where we doing it because we can, not because we should.
To celebrate Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow
will be released on the 3DS virtual console on February 27th! Unlike
most virtual console titles, the games will be updated for the 3DS’s
modern hardware, allowing you to use the 3DS’s wireless communications
instead of a link cable to trade and battle Pokemon!
Japan will get all four original games – Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
You can download them directly to your 3DS for an as of yet unannounced
price or buy a bundle in Japanese stores for 1,389 yen which comes with
a download card, a map of Kanto, and some informational Pokemon cards
(not the TCG kind). You can see the bundle’s contents below.
The original NES version of Earthbound has been officially released in the West for the very first time. It’s available right now on the Wii U Virtual Console!
Also, be sure to catch up on the history of the series with our in-depth article.
I was commissioned by SDEJ to create a gif of whatever I wanted with the loose theme of “creation changes the world”, for the company to use for their new website. I interpreted this to mean that how we express, display and share our ideas helps shape our reality–which is also why I love illustration. I had wanted to make a .gif of a potter’s wheel for a while so I jumped at the chance! For research, I watched tons of wheel throwing videos in Youtube.
The other day my mom said something that i found really insulting to
the 2d animation movies, she said that they stopped doing those because
they were no longer appealing to the audience and that they were
supposed to be discontinued, and i just thought how bullshit of an
argument that is.
Comparing 2d animation with 3d and saying one is
superior is like saying that digital art is better than traditional
art, better than the fucking Mona Lisa, The creation of Adam, in fact,
is a pretty ignorant comparation to do because one does not suprass the
other, but new techniques are getting invented and we invest in those
more.
Is just another way of animation, in fact, the shitty move
all those studios did by closing their 2d animation studios eas
pointless and it´s gonna cost them greatly, because someday people are
gonna want to go back to the 2d animation and studios like Disney or
Dreamworks will be too scared to do that, that will be the day that
other studios will take upon them and give us what we want.
2D animation has the most beautiful animation i´ve ever seen, there´s something in it that i can´t explain that makes a big difference from watching cgi, and what i think would make a great combination is the great amount of details that you see in CGI and 3D movies into 2D techniques so you could expect to see shit like this
Atlantis (2001)
Treasure Planet (2002)
Sinbad (2003)
5 centimeters per second (2007)
The princess and the frog (2009)
Children who lost their Voices (2011)
Beyond the boundary (2015)
Your name (2016)
So whoever dares to say 2d animation is dead is wrong and also a bitch
NASHVILLE, TN—A new report published Friday by researchers at Vanderbilt University revealed that 17 new species of bacteria are discovered every day during expeditions into the lush plastic foliage of the world’s Rainforest Cafés. “During our study, our researchers identified and classified more than 12,000 previously unknown microbes living in the Rainforest Café biome,” said lead author Nadia Lopez, adding that an astonishing number of unicellular microorganisms were thriving on the rims of Cheetah Rita glasses, in pools of water on the tables, and deep within the chocolate lava volcano cake. “It’s challenging for biologists to keep up with the rate at which new endotoxin-secreting species are discovered. And we’ve only worked our way through the first few items on the menu.” The researchers went on to speculate that the gift shop would likely contain undiscovered bacteria all its own.
Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans,Michael Pangrazio,Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie! Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places across Earth and the Universe.
